Production Lead

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for verifying accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipments, preparing documents, issuing carrier instructions for shipping and delivery of materials, and recording shipment data. The RTT Production/Shipping Lead will determine shipping methods for materials using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. In addition, this person will communicate with company representatives to rectify problems such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.  The RTT/Production Lead will work either in the warehouse or in the manufacturing facilities as shipping needs dictate. He/she will determine and communicate product needs from the molders/purchasers to ensure inventory levels support outbound orders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain communication with the team and management to ensure work will be completed on schedule and in compliance with established practices.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of all paperwork. Assist in maintaining department database, prepare routine reports, and IQMS accuracy.
  • Operate work equipment, forklift power tools and specialized instruments used in plant operations.
  • Be willing to work in all areas of operations as requested to maintain team assets.
  • Participate and assist in continuous training for your team.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and general appearance of facilities and surrounding work areas.
  • Ensure process and procedures and work instructions are being followed.
  • Perform spot checks on assembly tasks to ensure items are properly packaged, labeled and that components are correct and consistent.
  • Will be held accountable for quality and consistency on finished product and shipped orders.
  • Support as needed for shipping and production requirements.
  • As a safety leader ensuring everyone is working in a safety-conscious manner, taking necessary precautions to keep self and co-workers safe, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment. 
  • Identifying and resolving safety concerns 
  • Providing recommendations to staff and management on safety issues and/or work-related injuries. 
  • Participate in corrective and preventative action activities.
  • Performing accident investigations as needed.
  • Professional Development: Each member of the Leadership team must complete a minimum of 24 hours of training on/off site per year. This should be tracked by the employee.
  • Responsible for auditing shipments and receipts for accuracy of purchase order or customer order information, ensuring correct items, quantities, and no damages.
  • Assist and evaluate needs with shipping services, points, weights, and freight permits.
  • Prepare Bills of Lading, check items to be shipped against pick tickets to ensure quantities, destination and routing are correct.
  • Load outbound freight.
  • Trace lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments, initiate proof of delivery documents.
  • Double check outgoing shipments for correct counts as well as confirm orders are packaged properly for transit.
  • Communicate with 3rd party providers to efficiently coordinate all activities for inbound and outbound shipments, including dock appointments, live unloads, drop trailers/containers and empty equipment notifications and returns.
  • Setting up workstations with correct materials and correct layout to maximize efficiency.
  • Help ensure team members have accurate and updated work instructions.
  • Locate and verify materials needed for production assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.  
  • At least 1 year in a manufacturing/warehousing role
  • Ability to use measuring devices (calipers, etc.) and hand and power tools (drills, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret operating manuals and engineering standards.
  • Experience in operating work equipment, forklift power tools and other specialized instruments used in plant operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Comfort and ability to be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, heat and cold.

  $23 to $25 an hour depending upon experience.
